Umva Couture is proud to present classic, everyday wear for women, designed, naturally dyed, and tailored in Rwanda, by Rwandans. We embody the “Made in Rwanda” concept.
Umva Couture creates fashions using fine silks dyed with indigenous plants of Rwanda designed with other complimentary fabrics. The fashions of Umva Couture are unique, elegant and ready to wear for any occasion. Nancy Zeller and Josette Umurerwa partner together to create the designs and colorways. Nancy Zeller shares her knowledge of natural dyeing with the Rwandan women who dye the cloth for Umva Couture. Hand dyed, the Rwandan women dye one of a kind fabrics and wearables for Umva Couture. Umva Couture supports fair trade for the dyers and has a low impact on the environment in Rwanda.
Rwandan fashion designer, Josette Umurerwa received her Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Technology at Lovely Professional University, India, in the year 2014. Her fashion sense is current, fresh and imaginative. Nancy Zeller holds a BA in Art and has been immersed in natural dyeing since 2005. In 2015, Zeller completed a dye plant research project through INES-Ruhengeri University, Rwanda. She is the Founder/CEO of Rwanda-one4one, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and Umvarwanda, the natural dye project.
